Traffic Safety is all about

**Engineering**Enforcement**Education**

Keeping our streets safe is a high priority in American Canyon.  The Public Works Department designs, constructs and maintains city streets in a safe condition while the Police Department enforces traffic laws.  Our Traffic Safety Team meets regularly to evaluate concerns about traffic safety.  Many of the concerns reviewed in these meetings originate from community members. The page and form below were designed as a portal for you to express your concerns directly to Our Traffic Safety Team.  Please note this information is only monitored during regular business hours.  If you have an immediate Safety Concern please dial 911

Engineering

The California MUTCD 2014 Revision 1 is developed and maintained by the Federal Highway Administration and is revised periodically with input from practitioners, agencies, and other stakeholders. It is intended to set minimum standards and provide guidance on implementation, in order to ensure uniformity of traffic control devices in California, to enhance safety and efficiency in the transportation system.

Enforcement

The City has two officers assigned to traffic enforcement. They are on motorcycles, weather permitting. One works Monday through Thursday, the other Tuesday through Friday. They work 7:30 am-4:30 pm.  The motor officers work these times because those days are when the traffic is the heaviest, with school and work traffic.  Most mornings and afternoons the motor officers focus on the areas around the schools.  The rest of the day they focus where a need has been identified, either by their own observations, complaints or accident history. The two police technicians also help out with traffic flow at the schools.
